North of Santa Clarita, you'll find mountain cabin living in Pine Mountain Club, Frazier Park, Lebec and Tehachapi.
Northeast, you'll find the quaint lakeside villages of Green Valley, Leona Valley, Lake Elizabeth and Lake Hughes.
To the west, Piru and Fillmore are viable choices if you are simply priced out of Santa Clarita. They offer a shorter 25 minute drive to the Ventura beaches and cooler climate.
These are probably not practical as primary homes if you work in Los Angeles, but they are great vacation home locales.
